With so much of the country being ravaged by the devastating bushfires, we have been discussing how it would be best to assist not only those in need, but those who are volunteering their time to assist those in need. In this article we will outline some of the grants available to businesses and also how we can assist.
Recovery Grants for Bushfire affected businesses (SA)
The South Australian government has announced that there is a $10,000 grant available for eligible small businesses affected by the bushfires.
There is also a primary producers disaster recovery fund for $15,000 for primary producers in the local government areas of Adelaide Hills, Kangaroo Island, Murray Bridge and Mount Barker. Eligibility criteria has not yet been released for this fund, but is expected soon however. More information is available on the PIRSA website.
There is a lot of information on bushfire disaster recovery on the DHS Website.
How can Ace Business assist affected Businesses?
We would like to offer our services to assist with filling out any recovery grant applications to South Australian businesses that may be affected by the bushfires that have swept across our state.
Assistance for Volunteer Firefighters
At present, volunteer firefighting government funding is directed at New South Wales firefighters. We are waiting for the government to be clear on how they will be assisting South Australian and Victorian volunteer firefighters. We will use this to help us direct our efforts effectively.
“We love to help others, and what better people to assist than those who are also selflessly helping others. David and I had a discussion and thought that we could help with taking the burden off of those that have given up so much to help.” said Bec Purczel, partner and accountant at Ace Business.
Today, Ace Business has pledged that we will be offering up to 50 free basic tax returns to those volunteering to fight the fires. These will be available to those volunteers that are in receipt of government volunteer funding. We have been discussing what we could do to help and discussed that helping the brave volunteer firefighters that have put their lives on the line for our country would be a great first step. This will be one less thing for these brave firefighters to have to think about.
How can you assist?
It’s important that we all get behind the communities that are suffering from these devastating bushfires. Don’t abandon them. Visit Kangaroo Island, buy the wines and other products from the hills, and keep their economies circulating.
There are many ways that you can help, not only financially but also physically. News.com.au have compiled a list of ways you can assist here.
If you would like to volunteer your time then you can download the wedo app, an initiative of volunteering SA&NT.
